Unit 6 Blog- Loving Kindness Exercise & Integral Assessment
Describe the exercise and assessment process.
The Loving-Kindness exercise was interesting. It was hard to repeat the four statements over and over for ten minutes with my eyes closed. I thought I should record myself saying them and then playing it with my eyes closed. I believe that saying positive statements will convince your brain to be positive. As I was saying these statements my brain was thinking of who needs help out there in the world and how can I give of myself to help them?
The Integral Assessment seems like a very good resource to explore aspects in our life that we can work on improving.
What did you discover about
yourself?
I know that I have more than one area in my life that needs attention. They are areas in all four areas, psychospiritual, biological, interpersonal, and worldly. Maybe I should determine which area is urgent to begin with? The concern is doI focus on one area at a time? Or do I work a little on all at the same time?
What area have you chosen to be a focus of growth and development?
I think the most urgent area I need to give attention to is in my psychospiritual life. I am still struggling with my trust and jealousy issues (emotional). It causes me stress and aniety which are no good for either my health or the health of my relationship. I think I have improved but I am not even close to healed.
What are some specific exercises or activities that you can implement to
foster greater wellness in this area?
How do we know this? Ideas anyone? The only thing I can think of is to work on my self condifence. This is supposed to be why people have these issues. I would love some ideas.
Kristine,
ReplyDeleteI agree, listening to a recording would have made the exercise much easier.
Do you remember how you rated your different aspects of life earlier in the term? I felt I needed to work most on my psychospiritual aspect. I am reading daily devotionals and my Bible daily. I am meditating a couple of times a week. I do not meditate long - only lasts 2-5 minutes, but it is better than I was doing before - it is progress. I like the subtle mind exercise - noticing my thoughts and then letting them go. I feel this exercise has been most helpful.
We are all different and what works for one may not work for another. If you live by the beach, maybe sitting and watching the waves would help to clear your mind.
I also think knowing one has a purpose is a key component to optimal health. There is no one else like you on earth - you are here for a reason. You deserve to be valued and loved - don't settle for less!
Cynthia
Cynthia,
DeleteThank you so much for your kind responce to my post. I am going to take your advise and really make an attempt at finding the time to meditate and I agree I liked the subtle mind exercise the best so I will use that one as well. I will also look into the daily devotionals, is there a specific book you suggest? I live about 35 minutes from the beach and that is also great advise, but I wouldn't get to go that often with work, school and all the other "life stuff"to take care of. I am planning on getting a hammock for my back porch and I think I will use that to relax and meditate (when I get it). I have "The Purpose Driven Life" book and CD as well, but have not read but the first chapter and stopped. I need to continue reading that (just so busy with school work:( ). Have you read it? Thank you again for your sweet, kind words!
Kristine
Kristine,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that it is hard to decide which area to focus on in our lives. I feel like I have so much I need to work on! It was hard to decide what area needed more development than the rest.
I also agree with Cynthia about self-confidence. Out of everyone on earth, you are the best at being you! No one can compare. And remember, no one is perfect. NO ONE. The key to confidence is just knowing that your imperfections are what make you truly unique & worth knowing. I like to refer to my flaws or imperfections as "quirks", that way they sound kinda cute & endearing ;) Besides, being different from everyone else is what makes us each so amazing!

Hannah,
DeleteYou are so sweet! You made me smile and I loved what you said about self confidence. Thank you so much, you made me have a different perspective, that is awesome! Quirks...I'm going to use that :)
Thanks again,
Kristine
